Frederick County Middle School Student Wins National Award

FREDERICK, MD (WJZ) - An Urbana Middle School student has been selected as one of seven contestants to earn a national PTA award.

Emma Liu won the National PTA Reflections Program Outstanding Interpretations Award. The award comes with an expenses-paid trip to the PTA Convention and Expo in Las Vegas next month. Liu will also receive an invitation to the U.S. Department of Education for a ceremony and showcase exhibition, a medallion and certificate, as well as a $800 scholarship.

The local PTA receives $200 to help support arts and culture in Frederick County.

The contest saw tens of thousands of applicants nationwide submit original works of art in the medium of their choosing, including dance-choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography or visual arts.

Emma won first place in the literature category.
