Police: 2 Charged In Feb. Frederick High Shooting

FREDERICK, Md. (WJZ) -- More than six weeks after two teens were shot outside Frederick High School, a major break in the case. A grand jury has indicted two suspects in the shooting, and police say more arrests are possible.

Meghan McCorkell has the latest developments.

Brandon Tyler and Chandler Davenport face a laundry list of charges, including first-degree assault. Detectives say the investigation is not over yet.

Frederick Police say 21-year-old Brandon Tyler and 19-year-old Chandler Davenport are behind the February 4 shooting of two teens outside Frederick High School that rattled the entire community.

Investigators say Davenport was inside the JV basketball game and lured the intended victims outside—sending a text message to Brandon Tyler who opened fire near the gym doors.

Two teens were hit and two other teens ran for their lives. Officials say they believe the shooting is gang related and the victims and suspects know each other.

"They have some ongoing relationship and they are obviously at ends," said Lt. Clark Pennington, Frederick Police.

Investigators say they interviewed more than 300 witnesses in the case and followed up on countless tips.

The gang ties have some worried.

"In Frederick? That's surprising," said one woman.

School officials say gangs are more of a community issue.

McCorkell: "So you don't feel like there's a gang problem inside the schools?"

"No I know our schools are safe and I know our principals and administrators do everything that they can to keep our schools safe every day," said Michael Doerrer, a Spokesperson for Frederick County Schools.

The two teen victims are expected to recover; meanwhile the two suspects face more than a dozen charges each.

This afternoon, a judge denied bond for Tyler, Davenport's bond is set at $2-million.

WJZ has learned that Davenport was found guilty of assault just last year. Brandon Tyler was found not guilty of a weapons charge.
