Frederick Police To Cover School Events After Agreement

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Frederick school officials have reached an agreement with the city's police union so that officers can once again provide extra security at school events.

Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 91 President Sgt. Jonathan Shatlock tells the Frederick News-Post that the union received an email in June in which officials from Frederick County Public Schools met officers' demands that they be guaranteed a three-hour minimum shift when working extra details for school dances or sporting events at the county's schools.

The union rejected the school's contract in July 2014 because it only guaranteed that officers be paid for a minimum of two hours per detail.

The school system's Chief Security Officer Clifton V. Cornwell says the new contract with city police will last for the next two years.
