Frederick Police Renew Effort To Solve 1996 Cold Case Murder

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The Frederick Police Department is renewing its investigation of the death of a 15-year-old girl in 1996 and is asking for the public's help in solving the cold case.

Stacy Lynn Hoffmaster was reported missing in October 1996. Her body was later found in a wooded area in Frederick in December 1996.

Investigators said Friday that the Hoffmaster murder has remained an active investigation. The primary investigator has recently retired, and the case is being reassigned to a senior detective to continue the effort. The department says Detective Kevin Forrest is now overseeing the investigation and brings a fresh perspective and view of the evidence.

The department is asking anyone with information on the case to call police.
