Student Driver In SUV Dies After Colliding With School Bus

FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- Frederick County sheriff's deputies say a teen died Wednesday morning when her SUV collided with a school bus in Middletown, Md.

The sheriff's office identified the 17-year-old driver of the SUV as Middletown High School student Claire Knight. She died on scene.

The collision occurred with a Frederick County Public School bus around 7:15 a.m. Deputies say Knight's SUV was traveling northbound when it collided with the front end of the school bus heading southbound.

The one student aboard the bus and the bus driver was transported with minor injuries to an area.

Officials closed Old Middletown Road between Bussard Road and Colebrook Lane for the investigation.

Middletown High principal Lee Jeffrey told the AP school counselors are available to students and staff.

A GoFundMe page has been set up in her honor.
