3 Firefighters Hospitalized, 7 Townhomes Destroyed In Three-Alarm Frederick Fire

FREDERICK, MD. (WJZ) — Three firefighters were hospitalized after battling a three-alarm blaze that destroyed seven townhomes in Frederick Friday morning.

Fire crews were called to a townhome complex on Carrolton Drive just before 9 a.m. When they arrived, they saw fire coming through the roof of four units.

The fire quickly spread to all seven units and caused the second floor to partially collapse.

It took 75 firefighters two hours to bring the fire under control.

All seven homes are presumed to be a loss. The number of people displaced is still being determined, and the American Red Cross and South End Baptist Church are helping those families.

Three firefighters were taken to local hospitals for evaluation of exhaustion.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
