Fort Meade Getting New Commander

FORT MEADE, Md. (AP) — Maryland's largest military installation is getting a new commander.

Fort Meade says in a statement that Col. Tom Rickard assumes command of the Army post between Baltimore and Washington on Thursday.

Rickard has served three deployments in Afghanistan, most recently as director of information operations for the support mission there.

Rickard holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Georgia Tech; a master's degree in human resources from Central Michigan University; and a master's degree in joint campaign planning and strategy from National Defense University.

He succeeds Col. Bryan Foley, who has been the installation commander since August 2013. Foley is going to the Pentagon.
