Former Treasurer For Cecil GOP Committee Charged With Theft

TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- Maryland's state prosecutor has charged the former treasurer of the Cecil County Republican Central Committee with felony theft of campaign funds and perjury.

State Prosecutor Emmet Davitt announced the indictment Monday against Carrie Taylor of Elkton.

She served as treasurer of the committee from December 2010 through December 2014.

An Anne Arundel County grand jury returned a three-count indictment alleging that Taylor made numerous unauthorized purchases and withdrawals from the committee's bank account from cash raised during its fundraising events for her own personal use. The indictment alleges theft totals between $1,000 and $10,000.

The indictment also alleges she filed an inaccurate campaign finance report with the state elections board in January 2014.

The central committee referred the matter to the state prosecutor's office.
