Former Orioles Minor League Pitcher Charged In 1997 Child Sex Abuse

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Frederick police say a Vancouver, Wash. man has been charged with child abuse and sex offense for alleged incidents that occurred in 1997.

Police say Eric Meredith Estes, 41, was arrested in Washington state Wednesday. Authorities say he is awaiting extradition to Maryland.

Police say in 2007, officers investigated allegations of the sexual molestation of a 13-year-old boy that allegedly took place between April and September 1997.

The News-Post of Frederick reports that Estes was a pitcher with the Frederick Keys, a minor league affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, in 1997. Authorities say new information led to the case being reopened last month.

Vancouver Public Schools officials tell The Columbian in Washington that Estes, a teacher and baseball coach, is on administrative leave.
