Former Frederick County Worker Alleges Political Firing
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A former deputy Frederick County attorney says the county's elected leaders fired her in 2011 at the behest of land developers who considered her their enemy.
The Frederick News-Post reported Friday that Frederick County Commissioners President Blaine Young is denying the allegation made by Wendy Kearney in a lawsuit filed Wednesday.
Kearney contends she was on a "developer's hit list" of county workers that local builders and real-estate developers had asked the newly elected, pro-growth county board to fire.
Kearney says she was targeted because she had represented the previous county board, dominated by slow-growth advocates, in legal disputes over development.
Hers was one of 38 county jobs eliminated in what the commissioners called a cost-cutting move.
