Former Maryland Player Juan Dixon Named Men's Basketball Coach At Coppin State
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Former University of Maryland basketball player Juan Dixon has been named the head coach of the men's basketball team at Coppin State.
Dixon, 38, was officially introduced as the Eagles new men's basketball coach during a news conference on Wednesday.
Dixon lead Maryland to an NCAA championship in 2002, spent three season as a special assistant to Maryland men's basketball coach Mark Turgeon and spent last season as the head coach of the University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team.
Dixon played in the NBA for seven seasons for the Washington Wizards, Portland Trailblazers, Toronto Raptors and Detroit Pistons.
A former standout at Calvert Hall, Dixon replaces Michael Grant, who went 25-69 in three seasons after replacing longtime Coppin State head coach Fang Mitchell.
Coppin State has had just one winning season in the past 14 years.
