Ex-Liquor Store Owner Sentenced In Bribery Scheme
GREENBELT, Md. (AP) — Prosecutors say a former Maryland liquor store owner who admitted to paying thousands of dollars in bribes to lawmakers has been sentenced.
The U.S. attorney's office said in a news release Wednesday that 56-year-old Shin Ja Lee was sentenced to a year and a day in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Lee was also ordered to forfeit more than $200,000 and pay a $50,000 fine.
The Washington Post reports Lee took part in making payments to then-Dels. William A. Campos and Michael L. Vaughn in exchange for their help passing legislation to expand Sunday liquor sales in Prince George's County. Lee participated in bribe payments on five separate occasions in 2015 and 2016.
Campos and Son are among those who have pleaded guilty. Vaughn was convicted of bribery and conspiracy in March.
