FOP Unhappy About Commissioner's Statement Friday
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Baltimore's Fraternal Order of Police is unhappy in the comments made by Police Commissioner Anthony Batts Friday.
Batts says that there is no excuse for Freddie Gray to not have been wearing a seatbelt and that he was disappointed that it took so long for him to receive medical attention.
In a statement, the FOP said, "We are disappointed in the comments made yesterday by Commissioner Anthony Batts, and various members of his Command Staff, relative to the actions of the officers directly involved in the Gray investigation. These comments appear to be politically driven and in direct contrast to the Commissioner's own request not to jump to any conclusions until the entire investigation is complete. We believe in the Rule of Law and continue to believe that our officers, like all American citizens, are innocent until proven guilty. We stand in support of all of our officers as they continue to protect the citizens of Baltimore City. Our thoughts and prayers are with the men and women of the Baltimore Police Department, and the various allied agencies, who have been tasked today with keeping our city safe despite great adversity."
