Heavy Rain Slams Parts Of Maryland This Christmas

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Heavy rain slams parts of Maryland, leaving some areas under water this Christmas.

Rick Ritter with the flash flooding in our area.

We've seen a little bit of everything--from high temperatures to heavy rain and flooded roads--not the holiday many had in mind.

A constant downpour, flash flooding and cars submerged--Mother Nature pounds parts of Baltimore for the Christmas holiday.

"Not a great day, but it's not snow," said Tim Thaxton.

An unexpected combo in late December.

"Not this much rain, especially not this much warm," said Tyr Rollins.

Near Falls Road, high waters aren't putting a halt on family plans.

"We're going to go down to 34th Street and look at the lights," said Thaxton.

By Johns Hopkins--a different story--a few cars are left stranded, floating like bath toys.

"People can't drive, can't see. You've got to be extra cautious," Rollins said.

Others, like Tyr Rollins, are sick of the Christmas rain.

"I got a leaky roof, water dripping through the roof with all of the in-laws and relatives," he said.

Hundreds of flights were canceled nationwide due to the stormy weather.

"All of our flights have been canceled, so it's a little sad because we want to get home. Our kids are a little sad. They want to see their grandparents," said Kari Bardell.

At BWI, the rain and fog caused only a few delays--a whirlwind of a holiday many are toughing out.

"It's Christmas. What can I tell you?" said Thaxton.

Experts say the worst time to drive home is on Sunday, when most drivers are expected to be on the road.

The best to drive back will be Monday morning.
