Flammable Spray Caused Adelphi Apartment Fire

ADELPHI, Md. (AP) -- Fire officials say the unexpected discharge of a flammable spray adhesive caused a fire that injured five people, including three firefighters, in an Adelphi apartment.

Prince George's fire department spokesman Mark Brady said in a news release Wednesday that the fire on Jan. 16 in a New Hampshire Avenue apartment building caused $200,000 in damage.

Brady says an aerosol can of extremely flammable spray adhesive unexpectedly released a continuous stream of product, which came in contact with an open flame.

Firefighters rescued two occupants of the apartment next door using a ladder. Brady says three firefighters suffered minor injuries.

Brady says the husband and wife in the apartment where the fire started were taken to a burn unit. The husband has been released, Brady says, but the wife remains hospitalized.
