After House Explosion In West Baltimore, Crews Working To Repair Gas Lines Nearby
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Fire investigators are looking into what caused a house explosion in West Baltimore late Thursday.
Firefighters were called to North Monroe Street in the Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood just before 11 p.m.
The house that exploded was vacant and located in the middle of a group of row homes.
The fire from the first house damaged an occupied house next door.
"I feel blessed that it wasn't my home," Derrick McCargo told WJZ. "I live in the house next door."
McCargo is looking for his dog who ran out when firefighters broke in.
"A little saddened for my dog, but glad I wasn't home," he said.
According to Baltimore City Fire officials, a natural gas explosion is most likely the cause of the explosion. The fire still remains under investigation, and no official cause has been given.
No injuries have been reported at this time.
"I ain't seen anything happen like this ever before," a neighbor told WJZ. "It was like the movies to me. I was walking beside that house about 10, 15 minutes before it actually exploded."
