Firefighters Rescue Person From Pond After Car Overturns

ELLICOTT CITY (WJZ) -- Howard County firefighters and paramedics rescued a person from a car overturned in a pond in Ellicott City Wednesday evening.

According to firefighters, the car went into a storm water retention pond off Route 100 East near Executive Park Drive around 4:30 p.m.

According to 911 calls, the car left the roadway, landed in the pond and was sinking fast,.

When rescuers arrived they saw the car almost completely submerged with the driver standing on the roof, after getting out of the car on their own.

Firefighters put on cold water rescue suits and entered the pond to rescue the victim.

No other occupants were inside the vehicle.

The person was treated by paramedics on scene before being transported to Howard County General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  There were no injuries to HCDFRS personnel.

The HCDFRS Special Operations Team remained on scene to assist the towing company with vehicle removal.  At this time the car has been removed from the pond and all HCDFRS units have cleared the scene.
