Fire Officials ID Man Who Died After Apartment Fire

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Fire officials are identifying a 24-year-old man who died after an apartment fire in Baltimore.

Fire Department spokesman Samuel Johnson said in a news release Friday that the man has been identified as Derrick Biggus-Ward.

Johnson says firefighters responded to a fire early Sunday on Frederick Avenue and rescued Biggus-Ward from a third-floor apartment. He was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

Johnson says Biggus-Ward died Monday and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that his cause of death was smoke inhalation.  Investigators determined that the fire was caused by unattended cooking.
