Fire Burns 5 Acres In Gambrill State Park Near Frederick

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Frederick County's fire-and-rescue agency says a mountain fire burned five acres of Gambrill State Park near Frederick before it was extinguished.

Battalion Chief Kevin Fox said in a statement Wednesday that it took 60 firefighters more than two hours to bring the blaze under control after it was reported shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Fox says a Maryland State Police helicopter was used to help direct firefighters.

He says the Department of Natural Resources is investigating the cause of the fire.

Gambrill State Park covers more than 1,100 acres of in the Catoctin (kah-TAHK'-tin) Mountains just west of Frederick.
