Festival Of Trees Will Be Online This Year. You Can Get A FREE Ticket To The Event

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Festival of Trees is moving online this year, like many events, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"We decided at Kennedy Krieger over six months ago that we were not going to let the pandemic get in the way of this tradition that all of Baltimore and so many, many others depend on each year. So this yea,r we're going virtual, but the trees are real," said Lisa Nickerson, with the Kennedy Krieger Institute.

The good news is you can experience it for FREE this year.

The money raised helps 25,000 kids and families each year.

"People come around the world to Kennedy Krieger for our services, we are truly one of a kind, but we're a nonprofit and we depend on generosity of the community to help support our services," Nickerson said.

Longtime and even new sponsors proudly showcase their creativity for a cause.

"We decorated a family game night tree designed with pieces that include decorations from all different games that were handcrafted by our team and then underneath the tree, we've put a whole set of classic games so that families can spend time together over the holidays," said Katie Capel, Festival of Trees sponsor.

"We have showcased a total of 86, handmade origami paper blossoms," said first-time sponsor Tamsen DiBlasio.

Despite the limitations presented by the pandemic, Festival of Trees continues to spread joy.

"It's our small way to take our paper flowers and bring beauty into the world and give happiness and joy during the holiday season," Nickerson said.

WJZ is a proud sponsor of the event and anchors Nicole Baker and Rick Ritter and weatherman Bob Turk will be emceeing the event this year.

The virtual event will be from Friday, Nov. 27 to Sunday, Nov. 29.

Tree and wreath sales, gift boutiques, games, auction and raffle will happen 24 hours a day. Plus, family entertainment each day!

Proceeds benefit Kennedy Krieger.
