Md. Father, Son Killed When Jet Skis Collide At Jersey Shore

SOMERS POINT, N.J. (WJZ/AP) — State police say a man and his 8-year-old son were killed when their personal watercraft collided with another watercraft in the waters off southern New Jersey.

Police say the father was sitting behind his son as they were riding on Patcong Creek in Somers Point in Atlantic County. They hit another personal watercraft head-on as they rounded a curve. It happened around 4:45 p.m. Saturday.

The father and son were taken to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead. State police say they were Maryland residents.

New Jersey State Police said there was no immediate indication that alcohol was a factor.

The other driver, a 55-year-old woman from Egg Harbor Township, NJ suffered a wrist injury.

"Although the crash remains under investigation, the limited sight line at the location of the crash and the fact the the boy was closest to the PWC steering and controls are being looked at as possible contributing circumstances," said police.
