Father Charged With Leaving Children Unattended In Car

BERLIN, Md. (AP) -- A Virginia man is facing charges after police in Maryland say he left his children unattended in a running car.

Officers were called to a Food Lion parking lot in Berlin on Friday for a report of children left unattended in a car. Police say officers found a 10-year-old boy and 3-year-old girl with special needs inside the unlocked and running car.

Police say 33-year-old Mark Masci of Newport News, Virginia, was taken into custody after store employees told him to return to his car. Police say Masci is charged with leaving a child under 8 unattended inside of a motor vehicle without supervision from a person over 13.

The Worcester County Department of Social Services took custody of the children until their mother arrived from Pennsylvania.
