Car Theft Suspect Killed In Police-Involved Shooting In White Marsh

WHITE MARSH, Md. (WJZ)--One suspect is dead and two others are in jail after an intense police chase in Baltimore County. It happened just after midnight.

Rochelle Ritchie spoke with police, who say they are looking into what led to the police shooting one of the men.

It is very early in the investigation but Baltimore County police say some sort of altercation occurred between the officer and one of the suspects. Neighbors say they heard four shots in the woods behind their homes.

This is the result of an intense police chase through a quiet Baltimore County neighborhood.

"Last night, a stolen car---as it drove around the corner---smashed into our car and stayed because the suspect got out and fled," said Michael Ayd.

The SUV belongs to Ayd, and he believes it may have helped stop three suspects he says were running from police in a Toyota Corolla.

"Normally we park in the driveway and it was just by chance last night we parked on the street," Ayd said. "I guess it helped stop the bad guy."

Just before 1 a.m., Baltimore County police say they noticed three men---two adults and a juvenile---sitting in a vehicle they believed to be stolen.

"That vehicle rammed the police car," said Corporal John Wachter.

The driver than rammed another car before police say they jumped out and ran.

Neighbors say the suspects made a run for the woods---which leads to I-95---which is when the situation went from dangerous to deadly.

"The actual canine came right through the backyard and into the woods with the dog," said Mark Huff.

The suspects continued to flee on foot.

"He says, `They're shooting out back' right in the back of my house, practically in my yard. I guess it was a little frightening at first," said Rose Wise.

Police say one of the adult males was shot and killed after an altercation with an officer. That person was identified as 19-year-old Briatay McDuffie. Two suspects---one just 16 years old---were taken into custody.

"One of the things they are going to be looking at, obviously, is what led to that interaction and what transpired between that officer and the suspect," said Wachter.

The officer who shot and killed one of the suspects did receive non-life threatening injuries. He did not require medical attention.

Police say the vehicle the suspects were in was stolen from Baltimore City.
