Fatal Fire Under Investigation In Northeast Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- One man is dead after a fire breaks out inside a northeast Baltimore home early Wednesday morning.

Officials said around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, smoke started to seep through the roof of the house. The victim was found dead inside. The cause of his death will be determined by the medical examiner.

The victim's home and another were damaged but no one else was injured.

Firefighters were there for about five hours. They got the fire under control early on and stayed to investigate its cause.

WJZ spoke to a friend of the man who died who said he was a business owner and was well known in the community and a very giving person.

"Really sad and my heart was heavy. I was riding on the expressway. I really wanted to pull over because it was really hard for me just to know that we were so close and he's gone," said Gerald Watson.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.
