1 Dead, 4 Injured In Multi-Vehicle Crash On I-97

GLEN BURNIE Md. (WJZ) -- One person is dead and four others injured after a multi-vehicle car crash in Anne Arundel County in Friday morning.

Maryland State Police said troopers responded to a crash on the southbound side of I-97 at Quarterfield Road around 1:30 a.m.

Witnesses told police there were two separate accidents -- an initially accident between a Hyundai Elantra and a black Mercury Sable, then another crash after when a Hyundai Accent crashed into both vehicles and struck the two men who had exited their vehicles following the first crash.

The man driving the Elantra was declared dead at the scene.

The woman driving the Accent was taken to University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.

A man who was riding in the Sable, the 26-year-old woman driving the Sable and a 1-year-old girl were also taken to Shock Trauma to treat their injuries.

According to investigators, alcohol and drugs are not contributing factors in either crash. The road was closed from the time of the crash until about 5:50 a.m. on Friday. The identity of the deceased victim is being withheld pending family notification.
