Family wants answers after father struck, killed by car in Southwest Baltimore

BALTIMORE -- The man who was killed in a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of North Hilton Street at Phelps Lane early Wednesday morning has been identified by his family.

Aaron Hall, 41, died at the crash site in Southwest Baltimore, according to his wife, Lakisha Hall.

"At the end of the day, he wasn't just some man walking down the street," Hall said. "He was a father, he was a husband and he stood for a lot of good things."

Baltimore Police said officers in the southwestern part of the city received a call about a pedestrian who had been hit by a car just after 2:30 a.m.

Hall explained that her husband was returning from the laundromat but never made it home.

"I'm just not understanding what cold, heartless person could do that," Hall said.

Some neighbors who live along the stretch of the major artery and saw the investigation unfold in front of their homes said the car involved in the deadly incident was abandoned at the crash site.

A witness, who did not want to be named, said a man and a woman jumped out of the vehicle soon after the crash. The man, who was allegedly driving the vehicle, ran away.

"Being from the neighborhood that I'm from, growing up in the era that I grew up in, I'm kinda numb to stuff like that because I'm used to seeing it," the witness said. "But at the same time, it's just, like, wow . . . Why would you do that?"

After seeing Hall on the side of the road, the neighbor said he called 911 for help.

"I just couldn't leave him like that," he said. "You have my condolences, my apologies for what they did."

Crash Team investigators are working on the case and have not announced an arrest yet.

"It's the honorable thing to do. If you did something, you need to be held accountable for it," Hall said.

Friends and family of the victim plan to hold a vigil at the site of the crash at 6 p.m. on July 22.
