Wild Weekend: Family Arrested After Police Officers Assaulted At House Party

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- Underage drinking at a wild house party--and by the time it was over, three Montgomery County police officers had been assaulted, two people had been Tased and a well-known local family faced serious charges.

Facebook profiles reveal the Magas family in happier times--smiling parents and their star athlete sons. But charging documents uncover a wild weekend and a litany of criminal charges after the family threw a 21st birthday party for son Nicholas.

Tipped off by a text from a pizza deliveryman, police were outnumbered by partygoers. According to charging documents, the father--accountant George Magas--was visibly intoxicated and slurring his speech. Officers say he became belligerent and punched one in the face, another in the chest and hit and kicked several others. He allegedly had his hand on the grip of one officer's weapon and tried to remove it from its holster. Police used a Taser to subdue him.

According to charging documents, a Taser also became necessary to subdue another son, Eric. That allegedly prompted his mother, Cathy Magas, to jump onto the back of a police officer and strike him in the face with her elbow.

The parents are both charged with assault, along with one of their sons. The other is charged with obstructing justice.

Twenty-two others at the party were charged with alcohol-related offenses.
