COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WJZ) -- Counting down to tip-off. The start of the college basketball season is just days away, and expectations are sky high for both the Maryland men's and women's teams this year.
Marcus Washington with more on the excitement.
They are the pictures that capture the beginning of the University of Maryland basketball season. And following an amazing run last season, many predictions are ranking them high.
"I'm so excited for the season. I think we're really great, and if coach keeps pushing us in the gym, it's going to be really exciting," said Kiah Gillespie, Lady Terps forward.
Maryland Madness last week showed the excitement of fans, as they were able to get autographs and watch a little action.
The preseason rankings put the men's Terps at number three in the country and the women at number one in the Big Ten.
"We just want to be he best version of us. We want to set that bar high, and that standard," said women's head coach Brenda Frese. "And I think when we continue to work hard, great things will pay off for us."
After an amazing 2014-2015 season, many students say they are excited to see what both men's and women's teams will do.
"Women's, I don't know how much more you could do. I mean, I think we're going to do really great there, and I hope we do the same and hopefully better in both," said Grace Stephens, student.
"And the team, there's just so much high expectations to look up to," said Joe Horwitz, student. "It's going to be a great season, not doubt. For both men and women's."
"Our players want to win big. And to win big and to be great, you've got to sacrifice," said men's head coach Mark Turgeon.
One of the early highlights of the men's schedule is a matchup at home with Georgetown.
