Ex-Treasurer For GOP Committee Gets Probation For Theft
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The former treasurer of the Cecil County Republican Central Committee has been sentenced to probation for stealing campaign funds.
Thirty-six-year-old Carrie Taylor of Elkton of also ordered to pay more than $8,000 in restitution at sentencing Tuesday in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court.
According to a news release from the Office of the State Prosecutor, Taylor pleaded guilty to felony theft of more than $1,000.
She served as treasurer of the committee from December 2010 through December 2014. Prosecutors say Taylor made numerous unauthorized purchases and withdrawals from the committee's bank account from cash raised during its fundraising events for her own personal use.
Officials say she used the money for membership in an online dating website, pay for parking at her job and for airline tickets.
