Ex-Grad Student Sentenced To Life For Killing Friend

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- A man convicted of fatally stabbing a high school friend in a jealous, drunken rage has been sentenced to life in prison.

Twenty-five-year-old Rahul Gupta of Silver Spring was sentenced Wednesday in the death of 24-year-old Mark Waugh. Gupta was convicted of first-degree murder in March.

Prosecutors say on October 13, 2013, Gupta, Gupta's girlfriend and Waugh went to Gupta's Silver Spring apartment after a night of drinking. Authorities say Gupta believed his girlfriend was cheating on him with Waugh.

Gupta and Waugh were friends from high school. Waugh was a law student at Georgetown University; Gupta was pursuing a master's degree at George Washington University.
