Ex-girlfriend Says Gunman Hated Police Officers
RICHMOND, Va. (WJZ)--Police release a photo of the suspected gunman who shot and killed a Virginia State Trooper at a busy bus stop in Richmond earlier this week.
The suspect has been identified as 34-year-old James Brown III from Illinois.
Investigators say Brown--- who had a lengthy criminal record--- shot Trooper Chad Dermyer multiple times at a Greyhound bus stop.
Two troopers returned fire at Brown killing him.
Two women were injured in the crossfire, but are expected to survive.
A woman who dated the Virginia bus station gunman says he frequently expressed his hatred toward police and once nearly choked her to death after she broke up with him.
A former girlfriend of James Brown III spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because she said she fears for her safety.
Court records show that a judge granted a protection order against Brown in 2011 by his ex-girlfriend's request. Brown pleaded guilty in 2012 to domestic battery and aggravated battery of pregnant woman. He was released from prison in March 2014.
Saturday night a vigil will be held in honor of Dermyer.
