Episcopal Bishop Identified As Driver In Fatal Bike Crash

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- An Episcopal bishop is identified as the driver in a fatal bike crash.

An email to the clergy of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland has identified Bishop Heather Elizabeth Cook as the driver involved in a traffic accident that resulted in the death of a bicyclist.

The accident happened Saturday afternoon in the 5700-block of Roland Avenue in North Baltimore.

The victim, 41-year-old Thomas Palermo, died at Sinai Hospital.

The email says Cook left the scene initially, but returned after about 20 minutes.

Cook was ordained in September to the number two spot in the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland.

She has been placed on administrative leave. The accident could result in criminal charges.
