Season Kickoff This Weekend For Dundalk Community Theatre

DUNDALK, Md. (WJZ) -- A lot of people make it a hobby to seek out and find a city's hidden gems, but one of those gems might be hiding right in plain sight in Dundalk.

Marc Smith is the technical director of the Dundalk Community Theatre.

He knows exactly what to expect out of his workshop, knows exactly how his lumber is sorted and knows which microphone corresponds to which switch up in the booth.

Even though Smith knows where everything is, he feels that local theater fans don't know where all the good theater is.

"We're not in a church basement, we're actually in a real theater with staffing. We put up as much of a professional quality show as we can," Smith said.

In the past four decades, Marc and managing director Tom Colonna together have produced over 300 shows.

"The way we treat actors and people who work with us, that makes a big difference," Colonna said.

There's one actor you may even recognize--reality TV host Mike Rowe.

This is a proud group of paid staff and volunteers all just wanting for you to sing their praises.

"People are not familiar with this side of town, so they sort of stay away. And it's like, 'No, come on down here because this is one of the hidden secrets of the county, really," said Smith.

A four play subscription to the full season runs from $35 to $60 dollars. Their season opens on Saturday.
