Driver Who Ran Over Woman In Fells Point Had Previous Record

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- It's the video shocking viewers across the Internet--we are learning more about the driver of the van that pummeled a woman on a Fells Point sidewalk.

Marcus Washington with more on Orlando Redd's violent past.

Redd is currently in police custody, facing a number of traffic related charges--but police say expect more charges to come. And this isn't Redd's first run-in with the law.

The video is chilling.

"Didn't understand what was happening in it, but I recognized the area immediately," said Elise Swain.

The aftermath--horrifying.

"I was in shock," Mitchell Oliver said.

In an attempt to escape a group of attackers in Fells Point on South Broadway just after 2 a.m. Saturday, Orlando Redd continuously rammed his van into a parked car blocking his path.

Before a final attempt to escape with at least two men clinging to his Honda Odyssey, he put the van in reverse, running onto the sidewalk, hitting a woman and trapping her underneath the tires for a moment before speeding off.

"And to see that type of activity and violence, it really upset me," said Oliver.

"Yes, he appeared to be a victim of an assault at a certain point, but our investigation also leads us to believe that this person was under the influence of alcohol," said T.J. Smith, Baltimore City Police Department.

This isn't the first run-in with the law for Redd. He spent 12 years in jail for a previous assault charge.

"It sort of makes me nervous. I'm standing in the tire tracks, and I'm thinking it could happen to me, it could happen to anybody just walking on the sidewalk," said Melissa Padilla.

For people who live, work and even come to Fells Point to have a good time, they say what happened early Saturday morning will not prevent them from coming back.

"I think if something happens to your community like that, that's the most important time to come in and support those businesses," said Swain.

"That just happened a couple of days ago and I'm right here today getting ready to watch the Super Bowl. No. This is a fun place," said Oliver.

Police continue to search for the suspected attackers in Saturday morning's incident.

As for Redd, he has a bail review set for Monday.

The GoFundMe page set up for Jill Boram, the woman hit by the car, has raised more than $40,000 of its $50,000 goal.
