Driver Gets 3 Years In Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash On BW Parkway

GREENBELT, Md. (AP) -- A Hyattsville man has been sentenced to more than three years in prison for the death of a passenger in his SUV after it rolled over on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.

Twenty-year-old Josue Balbino Ruiz Reyes had pleaded guilty in December to involuntary manslaughter in the death of the unidentified female passenger. He was sentenced to 37 months in prison on Tuesday in federal court in Greenbelt.

According to his plea agreement, on Aug. 22, Ruiz Reyes was driving south on the parkway from Glen Burnie. Prosecutors say he lost control of his vehicle, which rolled over, ejecting the passenger.

Officials say the SUV landed upright and Ruiz Reyes drove away. Prosecutors say U.S. Park Police officers stopped him about four miles away.
