Driver Flees Police, Crashes Car In Montgomery Co.

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- A driver who crashed his car while fleeing from a police officer in Montgomery County is in the hospital.

Montgomery County police say at around 9 p.m. on Saturday an officer came across a 2007 Honda Civic parked in a fire lane in front of a liquor store in Silver Spring. When the driver, 21-year-old Annal Upadhyaya, returned to the car the officer determined that he was driving with a suspended license and called a tow truck. When the tow truck arrived Upadhyaya jumped in the Honda and sped away.

Police say the officer lost sight of Upadhyaya but soon after discovered his car damaged and on its side. Police say Upadhyaya had been ejected from the vehicle and knocked unconscious after losing control and hitting a utility pole.
