Driver Charged With DUI After Hitting Police Cruiser

LAUREL, Md. (AP) -- Howard County police say an officer was slightly injured when his patrol cruiser was struck by another car in Laurel.

It happened about 10:35 p.m. Friday on Washington Boulevard. Police say Officer First Class Antonio Thomas was driving south when he was hit by a car trying to make a left turn.

Police say Thomas' cruiser was rendered inoperable and the striking vehicle drove off. Authorities say the car was found a short time later behind a motel and the driver was arrested.

Thirty-one-year-old Jason Marks of Temple Hills was charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a collision and multiple traffic violations.

Thomas was treated and released at a local hospital.
