Puppy Dies After It's Found Inside Trash Bag In Anne Arundel County

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. (WJZ)--A puppy is dead after it's found tossed like trash and left out in the cold in Anne Arundel County.

Amy Yensi spoke to the woman who made the disturbing discovery.

A neighbor says she noticed the trash bag because it was moving, almost shivering in the cold night.

The woman, who wants to stay anonymous, says she had no idea the defenseless dog was inside of the bag and on the brink of dying.

"I saw a black trash bag and it was breathing," she said.

Upon arrival, officers found the puppy stuffed in a paper bag, tied up in a knot, along with a green granular substance.

The male mixed-terrier, just about 5 or 6 months old, was tossed like trash in the Pumphrey section of Brooklyn Park.

The disturbing discovery made just before 9:00 p.m. Thursday.

Animal cruelty officers rushed the puppy to an emergency vet clinic, but he later died.

Detectives are looking at surveillance footage and handing out flyers throughout the neighborhood.

"He didn't have any obvious signs of trauma, no puncture wounds or anything like that. However, it was very cold," said Lt. Ryan Frashure, Anne Arundel County Police.

Brian Gibson lives near the lot and says dumping is an on-going problem.

"We have neighborhood watch trying to prevent it, but they still come through and dump trash," Gibson said.

Officials say the vet evaluation should be completed by next week. That will determine why the dog died and if the substance found in the bag was poisonous.

Anyone with information about the dog or its owner is asked to call police at 410-222-6145
