BELCAMP, Md. (WJZ) -- A dog has died in Harford County after being left out in the heat. The owner now faces animal cruelty charges.

Animal Control responded to reports that a chocolate lab was left on a second story deck with no shade and little water. It happened Thursday in the 1400 block of Tarragon Court in Belcamp.

By the time officers arrived, the dog had collapsed and was suffering from heat stroke. Despite rescue efforts, the dog did not survive.

It was more than 90 degrees at the time. Police say the surface of the deck registered 109 degrees.

A neighbor had attempted to help the dog by wetting it down with a hose.
