Development Coming To Home Of Old Cracked Claw

URBANA, Md. (AP) -- The site of a former Frederick County landmark with 19th-century roots is being redeveloped into a complex that will be home to a Burger King and other businesses.

For many decades, the Urbana site was known as the Peter Pan Inn or the Cracked Claw. Live peacocks roamed the restaurant grounds. Later the site hosted an off-track betting parlor.

But the Cracked Claw closed in 2011. The Frederick News-Post reported Monday that plans have been approved to redevelop the four-acre site to include a Burger King, Advance Auto Parts, and a Dash-In convenience store.

Demolition work has begun, but a county planner says that the Rine-Davis House, a tavern dating back to the Civil War, is being preserved. The Cracked Claw had been built around the house.
