Details Released On Thursday's Police-Involved Shooting In Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- One man shot, another tased after a police pursuit in Northwest Baltimore. Investigators say both men confronted officers as they attempted to get away.

Meghan McCorkell has more on what led to the shooting.

Investigators say a routine traffic stop started the incident that ended with an officer firing her gun.

Cell phone video obtained by WJZ shows the chaos after a pursuit with police ends in gunfire in Northwest Baltimore.

Investigators say it all started on Reisterstown Road when police attempted to stop a van that didn't have headlights on. The van took off down the street and crashed into a senior citizen's home on Pimlico Road.

Two men and a teen inside the van ran. The teen was caught right away. Another man was tased by police.

"They came back and went after the other guy," said Joshlyn Copes, neighbor.

Police say Officer Angel Richardson chased the third suspect, who attacked her in a violent struggle. That's when the 32-year-old officer pulled her gun and shot him in the abdomen.

"This individual was aggressively attacking this lone officer before the other partners can approach and assist," said Deputy Commissioner Jerry Rodriguez, Baltimore City Police Department.

The suspect continued running and was eventually caught in a vacant home.

"It was not a scuffle," one witness said.

That witness, who didn't want to be identified, tells WJZ a very different story.

"The police was running towards him and pulled her revolver out. I never heard her say freeze. I never heard her say this is the police, remain silent. None of that. She pulled her gun out and she shot," she said.

At least part of the incident was caught on CitiWatch crime cameras. Police are now reviewing the tape.

"When we pull the trigger, that is the last resort," said Rodriguez.

The man who was shot is expected to survive.

Investigators say the shooting victim has a violent past with multiple drug and weapons charges.

No police officers were injured in the incident. Charges are pending against the three suspects.
