Despite Loss, Towson Football Fans Still Roaring With Tiger Pride

TOWSON, Md. (WJZ) -- There was one chapter left in the incredible story of the Towson University football team. And the ending was a disappointing loss.

Christie Ileto has more on how Towson fans are still proud of how far their team has come.

This has been a season of many firsts for Tiger Nation, and many of those fans are happy their football team was even able to play in the championship game.

After four 15-minute quarters, the Towson Tigers come up short Saturday. The Tigers lost the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision game by 28 points to No. 1 seed and two-time defending champ North Dakota State.

"Coming in, we knew their defense was going to be good, but we didn't expect a blowout," said Towson fan Eric Huling.

"It's a little disappointing to see, but they're doing the best they can," said Joy Hugo.

Diehard Tiger fans, sporting their Tiger Pride back home, pack Charles Village Pub in Towson.

The team's road to the championship has been a Cinderella story of sorts, last month defeating No. 3 seed Eastern Washington in inclement weather.

"We play better in the snow. It's too warm in Texas," a Towson fan said.

But their final chapter played out in Texas without two of their senior starters, suspended for unidentified NCAA violations.

If you look inside any downtown Towson restaurant or store, all you see is Tiger gear. So, even with the championship loss, many fans are still roaring with Tiger pride.

"We had a feeling that we were going to hang in there, but not necessarily get the win. But I'm proud of the guys. Very proud," a Towson fan said.

And though Towson's dream season is over, Tiger pride roars through Maryland.

This was still an incredible run for the Towson Tigers. Many fans are already gearing up for next season.

Overall, Towson had a great season. As a result of the game, Governor Martin O'Malley will be sending the governor of North Dakota some Maryland crab cakes. It was all part of a very friendly wager.
