Deep Freeze Coming To DC Area

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The D.C. area weathered its first major winter storm but meteorologists say the region now faces subzero temperatures later this week.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Howard Silverman says a cold front coming Wednesday afternoon will bring a burst of snow flurries and a lot of cold air.

The region will be feeling the freeze when temperatures hover in the single digits Wednesday night and Thursday likely won't warm up past the teens, Silverman said. Thanks to the wind chill, Thursday night could feel somewhere between minus 5 and minus 15 degrees.

Silverman said Tuesday's sunshine helped some of the snow during the day, but there is a concern wet surfaces will turn icy by the evening.
