Man Dies In Early Morning Baltimore Fire

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A man was found dead inside a Baltimore home that caught fire early Friday morning.

When firefighters arrived at a group residential building in the Bel Air-Edison neighborhood Friday morning, they found heavy smoke coming from two floors, and a man already dead.

Crews were on the scene of a deadly house fire in the 3600 block of Lyndale Avenue near Erdman Avenue.

Firefighters said the man was already lying dead near the stairs in the front room when they broke through the front door.

The name of the man has not yet been released.

The fire didn't spread to other nearby homes, however, neighbors were still evacuated due to a large presence of smoke.

Nearby busy Erdman Avenue was shut down with detours tangling morning traffic in the area.

The body will be sent to the Medical Examiner who will determine if the man was dead before the fire happened or if it had been the cause of his death.

The fire was extinguished but the cause is still being investigated.
