Police: 1 Killed, 1 Wounded In Shooting In Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) --A double shooting in West Baltimore created a volatile situation between residents and police Tuesday night.

Baltimore City Police say a 28-year-old man was killed and a 33-year-old woman was injured in the shooting in the area of North and Pennsylvania avenues, where a police car was vandalized and a nearby CVS Pharmacy was looted and burned during the Freddie Gray protests in 2015.

The woman -- who has not yet been identified -- underwent treatment, according to police.

A large crowd gathered in the area just after 7 p.m. after several gunshots echoed through the streets.

"It was extremely loud," said witness Thomas Harris. "Well, it was rapid, and so you know, it's not firecrackers."

Baltimore Police spokesperson T.J. Smith tweeted that officers on foot heard gunshots and performed "lifesaving efforts."

Homeland Security Police was also at the scene, which was littered with numerous evidence makers.

A law enforcement officer told WJZ that police had to shut down several blocks when large crowds started to confront officers.

Police believe the shooting was targeted and the incident may have been caught on CitiWatch cameras.

Authorities have not announced the arrest of the shooter.

Our media partner The Baltimore Sun reports there have been 15 homicides in the first 10 days of July.

"It's a new generation out here now. A lot of the fathers, they're locking us up and we're not out here for our children. So our kids are just out here running rampant," said Baltimore resident Christopher White.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 410-396-2100 or text tips to 443-902-4824 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
