D.C. Region Preparing For Record Cold Temperatures

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The area around the nation's capital is bracing for what could be the coldest temperatures in 20 years.

The National Weather Service says freezing rain is possible early Sunday, but the real cold is expected to begin Monday. National Weather Service meteorologist Dan Hofmann says temperatures are expected to gradually decrease throughout Monday.

By Monday night, air temperatures around Washington and Baltimore are going to be in the single digits and probably in the low single digits. The wind will make it feel even colder.

The forecast for Monday night anticipates temperatures of 3 degrees at the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport outside Washington and 2 degrees at the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

Hofman says if those temperatures occur they would be the coldest temperatures observed in 20 years.
