DC Police: Man Charged In String Of Taxicab Robberies

WASHINGTON (AP) -- D.C. police say they've charged a 19-year-old southeast Washington man in a string of robberies of taxi drivers.

Police announced Thursday in a news release that detectives arrested Anthony Jones on Wednesday and charged him with several counts of armed robbery.

Police say they believe Jones was involved in eight robberies dating back to Oct. 1 in southeast and northwest Washington. Police say some of the drivers were held up at gunpoint. The most recent in the string of robberies happened Tuesday night on 11th Street northwest.

Police say detectives are looking at similar robberies.
