DC Mayor Voids 2,800 Parking Tickets Issued 1st Day Of Storm

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Mayor Muriel Bowser will void some 2,800 parking citations issued for parking on snow emergency routes the first day of Washington's epic snowstorm.

Bowser said in a news release Thursday that the ticket dismissal was a "small way" the city can help in recovery from the storm.

Drivers were warned Jan. 21 that the snow emergency plan, which prohibits parking on marked snow routes, would take effect at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 22. But Bowser says she understands that some drivers might not have known about the restrictions, or were running errands ahead of the storm.

The citations carry a fine of $250, plus fees for towing and storage. The fines will be voided, Bowser says, but towing and storage fees still apply.
