D.C. Lawmaker Wants To Impound Cars Of Suspected 'Johns'
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A D.C. Councilman wants to combat what he calls a rise in street prostitution by impounding the cars of suspected "johns."
On Tuesday, Councilman Jack Evans introduced a measure that he calls "Honey, I lost the car." It would require police to tow and impound a car when officers have probable cause to suspect it's been used by someone trying to pick up a prostitute.
Evans says the intent is to deter people because they'd be embarrassed to lose their vehicle. The Democrat says people from out of state have been driving to downtown Washington to solicit prostitutes.
Evans pushed through a similar bill 10 years ago that called for police to arrange for cars to be towed by another city agency, but he says it hasn't been sufficiently enforced.
