Dan Szymborski Talks MLB Future Power Rankings

Dan Szymborski, a baseball analyst for ESPN, joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to talk about his MLB Future Power Rankings.

Szymborski's Future Power Rankings are an attempt to measure how well each team is set up for success over the next five years. His criteria include four major categories: current talent (25%), future talent (45%), financial support (20%) and front office (10%).

The Chicago Cubs notched the top spot in the rankings for the second straight year. Szymborski talked about what makes the Cubs the number one team. "They have the best record in baseball. They still have a really good farm system. They have a lot of money. They have a really good General Manager/Team President in Theo Epstein, who knows a little about dispelling curses."

The Orioles came in at 22nd in the future rankings. Szymborski gave his thoughts on why he thinks the Orioles aren't set up for success over the next few years. "The problem is you're in the A.L. East with the Red Sox and the Yankees.  The Orioles will never have the revenue that either of those teams have…The way you beat those teams in the long-term is having a better farm system than them. But right now, the Orioles don't have a better farm system than either the Red Sox or the Yankees and that's the really big problem."
